Market Shows Strength in First Quarter of 2005

TORONTO, April 6, 2005 -- In March, a number of suburban areas outside of Toronto demonstrated significant increases in sales as compared to March of last year, and relative to the first quarter of 2004 TREB President Ron Abraham announced today.

"In particular, areas north of the city produced some of the strongest sales figures during the month," he added.

Sales totals in north Richmond Hill rose to eight per cent above March 2004, while first-quarter sales showed an increase of 42 per cent compared with last year.
A similar trend was apparent in Markham/Unionville, where monthly figures showed sales increases of 19 per cent over last year, and 29 per cent compared with the first quarter of 2004.

Within the city, the market showed strength in Toronto’s central districts. Monthly sales totals in Rosedale, Don Mills, North York, the Bridle Path and York Mills were all higher than in March 2004.

Year-to-date sales totals also supported the strong monthly figures in these areas. First-quarter sales in central North York were up 11 per cent from the first quarter of 2004, while York Mills and The Bridle Path showed increases of nine per cent in this respect. Don Mills, Rosedale and Willowdale were also up compared with the first quarter of last year.

"Good first-quarter results show that the Spring market is quite healthy, making it a good time to plan your next move," the President added.
