Real Estate Board REALTORS® Offer Scholarships Based on a 500-word essay-writing contest on the negative effects of marijuana
grow operations, and changes to building practices to compensate for global warming,
TREB will award two graduating high school students $5,000 each for the upcoming
school year at a post secondary institution of their choice. The scholarships, which TREB established in 2007, were awarded last year to
high school students Rachel Johnston of University of Toronto Schools and Adam
Kahn of Thornhill Secondary School. Their topics dealt with enshrining property
rights in the Canadian constitution and the environmentally friendly home of the
future. Toronto Real Estate Board President Maureen ONeill explains that since
real estate professionals must regularly meet continuing education requirements
to maintain registration under the Real Estate and Business Brokers Act, establishing a scholarship fund was a natural step for the organization,
which serves more than 27,000 REALTOR® Members in the Greater Toronto Area. As real estate professionals we demonstrate our commitment to continuing
education on an annual basis, said Ms. ONeill. These scholarships
re-affirm the importance that Toronto Real Estate Board REALTORS® place on
higher learning. Application packages have been sent to public and separate high school principals
throughout the GTA. This years essay topic choices are:
Ms. ONeill says the scholarships also demonstrate REALTORS®
commitment to the future of communities in which they work and live. There are many young people in the GTA who have tremendous potential
but lack the opportunity for education due to economic circumstances, said
Ms. ONeill. We are very pleased to offer this support because we believe
education is the foundation on which to build our country's future. The deadline for applications is April 15, 2008 and can be obtained by clicking
on a scholarship banner linked on this page. Interested students can also speak to their principal or guidance counsellor
for further scholarship requirement details. Toronto REALTORS® are passionate about their work. They adhere to a strict
code of ethics and share a state-of-the-art Multiple Listing Service. Serving
over 27,000 Members in the Greater Toronto Area, the Toronto Real Estate Board
is Canadas largest real estate board. Greater Toronto Area open house listings
are now available on www.TorontoRealEstateBoard.com. -30-
